When the
diesel generator battery has not been used for a long time, it must be properly charged before use to ensure the normal capacity of the battery. (The actual capacity of the battery can be detected by a hydrometer) Normal operation and charging will cause some water in the battery to evaporate, which requires frequent battery refilling. Before refilling, first clean the dirt around the filling port to prevent it from falling into the battery grid, then open the filling port and add an appropriate amount of distilled water or pure water. Do not overfill (based on the battery plate scale). Otherwise, when the battery is discharged/charged, the electrolyte inside the diesel engine will flow out of the overflow hole of the filling port, causing corrosion damage to surrounding objects and the environment.
Avoid starting the unit with batteries at low temperatures. The battery capacity will not be able to output normally in low temperature environments, and long-term discharge may cause battery failure (cracking or explosion).
The standby generator battery should be regularly maintained and charged, and a floating charger can be equipped.
Tips for diesel generator battery maintenance:
1. Use a damp cloth to wipe the outside of the battery, and wipe off the dust, oil, white powder and other dirt that may cause leakage on the panel and the poles (i.e. the positive and negative poles). If you frequently scrub the battery, the poles of the battery will not accumulate white acid-etched powder, and its service life will be longer.
2. Open the battery water filling cap to see if the water level is in the normal position. Generally, there will be upper and lower limit markings on the side of the battery for your reference. If the water level is found to be lower than the lower mark, you must add distilled water. If you can't get distilled water at once, you can use filtered tap water for emergency. Don't add too much water. The standard is to add it to the middle of the upper and lower marks.
3. Check whether the battery is charging normally. If you have a three-meter, after starting the engine, measure the voltage at the two poles of the battery. It must be more than 13V to be considered normal. If the charging voltage is found to be too low, you need to ask a professional to repair the charging system.
